چکیده

Ascorbic Acid, Dehydroascorbic Acid, Redox Potential, Free Radical, ESR The previously reported interaction between ascorbate monoanion and dehydroascorbic acid yielding semidehydroascorbic acid has been shown to be thermodynamically unfeasible and non-existent. No evidence for radical for mation in the reinvestigation of the reaction using ESR spectroscopy under careful exclusion of air could be found. Our results show that the detection of the free radical in earlier studies resulted from the reaction of ascorbate with traces of oxygen and/or metals.

The Diabetogenic Effect of Dehydroascorbic

The chemical properties of these two substances are strikingly similar. Both compounds are irreversibly decomposed under biological conditions. Alloxan has a half life of 1 minute (1) and dehydroascorbic acid has a half life of a few minutes (2). Alloxan is readily reduced to dialuric acid (3) with which it forms alloxantin (3). Dehydroascorbic acid is readily reduced to ascorbic acid (4) and a...

Thin-layer chromatographic determination of L-ascorbic, L-dehydroascorbic nd 2.3-diketo-L-gulonic acids in animal tissues, blood and urine.

A new method for the determination of ascorbic, dehydroascorbic and 2.3-diketogulonic acids in animal tissues, blood and urine is described. The material for analysis is homogenized in the presence of stannous chloride in trichloracetic acid and the extract is divided into three aliquots: in one part the ascorbic acid is converted into dehydroascorbic acid by oxidation with bromine water, in th...

The metabolism of ascorbic acid-1-C14 and oxalic acid-C14 in the rat.

It is known that oxalic acid is a product of ascorbic acid metabolism in the guinea pig (1) and rat (2), and is formed in man from unidentified precursors (3). Oxalates are also of interest because of their occasional toxicity and unexplained deposition. Ascorbic, dehydroascorbic, and 2,3diketogulonic acids are known to give rise to oxalic and threonic acids in approximately quantitative yields...

Antiviral effects of ascorbic and dehydroascorbic acids in vitro.

In the present study, ascorbic acid weakly inhibited the multiplication of viruses of three different families: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), influenza virus type A and poliovirus type 1. Dehydroascorbic acid, an oxidized form of ascorbic acid and hence without reducing ability, showed much stronger antiviral activity than ascorbic acid, indicating that the antiviral activity of ascorbic...
